-Clinical Cytology

Clinical cytology is the diagnosis of diseases such as cancer on the cellular level and has been used to aid in screening and evaluation of precancerous and cancerous cells as well as infectious diseases. Because of its major role in the early detection of diseases and saving thousands of lives, clinical cytology has undergone significant technological changes in the past 25 years.

The new technology, Liquid Based Cytology (LBC), has emerged. The first generation LBC enables the specimen, rather than smearing on the slides, to be collected. By using different instrumentation and automation, a thin layer of cell is formed which is easier to evaluate. However, the first generation LBCs suffers from high cost per patient due to use of expensive instruments and automation. The high cost of automation coupled with the high cost maintenance, filters, and other devices prevented the first generation LBCs to be implemented in many developing countries as well as developed countries where affordability and accessibility are challenge.

At chemQ bioscience, we have developed a new second generation LBC technology that does not use any expensive or complex automated instrumentation but utilizes equipment which is available in most clinical laboratories.  We use “Green Chemistry technology” to formulate new user and environmentally friendly products that contain no hazardous chemicals such as formalin. The new processing kits bring down the costs of performing LBC screening and make them ideal for use in any laboratory around the world where affordability and accessibility are challenge. Accessibility to such affordable test kits has the potential of saving thousands of lives every year.
